Chaturanga: The Four-fold Army

War is the last resort but must be prepared for. Kautilya's Chaturanga system organizes the army into four divisions: Patti (infantry), Ashva (cavalry), Gaja (elephants), and Ratha (chariots). This chapter explores Prakrta (open) vs. Kuta (covert) warfare, when war is justified (Vigraha), Senapati selection, troop formations, battlefield ethics, and the Dharma Yuddha (righteous war) concept. Victory without justice is no victory.
