Vyasana: Calamities and Continuity

Good governance must outlast any individual and survive crises. Kautilya's Vyasana (calamities) framework identifies 8 types of disasters that can afflict each of the Saptanga (seven state elements) - from divine calamities (daiva) to human-caused crises (manusa). This chapter explores how to anticipate, prevent, and recover from state crises, train successors, prevent succession disputes, and build resilient institutions that endure beyond any ruler.
